Businesses around the UK recently got together to urge the government to boost the economic recovery by increasing investment in broadband infrastructure.
The coalition of businesses, named Digital Business First, has made the claim that countrywide broadband coverage should be seen as essential for future economic growth. A report published by the coalition looked into current coverage and found that rural areas in particular were being held back by a lack of broadband connectivity.
The report goes on to say that the current government scheme is 'paved with good intentions' but adds that it seems to be failing many communities around the country. A shifting in the scheme's focus to increase the penetration of broadband could well result in an increase of GDP at a much quicker rate than the current plans would allow for and provide a real boost for rural services such as Devon computer services.
