The age of slow internet connections in the South West looks set to come to an end after it was announced that 90% of homes across Devon and Somerset should be benefitting from considerably faster broadband in the next three years.
It comes after the respective county councils signed a deal with the government worth an estimated £94 billion to improve the internet connections. With Devon currently boasting an average connection speed of 9 Megabits per second (Mbps), the revolutionary ‘superfast’ service will see browsers in the region reaching speeds of 24Mbps. The upgrades are part of a nationwide pledge outlined by Communications Minister Ed Vaizey for the UK to have the best broadband network in Europe by 2015 - and this means Small Businesses will benefit too.
With the upgrades not far away, it is also important to ensure your connection is set up correctly to ensure you get the best performance, whether in your business or home. If you are unsure, be sure to get in touch with one of VPW's Devon computer support specialists today.
With this and other recent news that BT are increasing the rollout of Fibre it looks like small businesses in Devon and Somerset could start seeing the sort of connections we know make a difference.
