Backup Services - Remote Backup for Small Business
Common queries answered for our Small Business backup services that work on your Desktop, Laptop or Server system, including how to make changes and check the service is working.
This can happen where you're backing up advanced services using the Server Edition, with technologies such as:
- Exchange Server
- SQL Server
- SharePoint
- Active Directory
This issue is normally caused because when you first setup this service, a FULL Backup is taken. Thereafter an Incremental Backup is taken. You'll often have a weekly "Full" backup with "Incrementals" during the week.
To perform an incremental, the system will place a marker in the database(s) of those tools to indicate where it has backed up to - then when you run an incremental, it gets that marker, and backs up everything that is new, and changed since that point. Then sets a new marker. When you perform a full backup, there is no marker - as it is not a "point in time" but a full copy.
This works absolutely fine when only one system is performing backups. However if you have a second system take backups, this will cause issues. We most commonly see this issue where a customer has taken some other type of backup (often a one off SQL Backup using the native management tools for example).
The normal way to resolve this is to perform a FULL Backup again of the data that is failing - using our system, after which routine backups should run normally again.
